How To Stay Motivated

Working out can be hard and exciting as hell all at the same. Even the best intentions to staying fit will sometimes not be enough and your motivation will naturally change. The truth is that every day won’t feel like a fitness fairy tale, so don’t be so hard on yourself if you skip the occasional workout. Staying on top will require you to find what really makes you tick when it comes to your fitness, regardless of your energy levels.
You need to have regular evaluation of why you want to train so hard and why you want to improve. Your “why” is more important than anything because it will keep pushing you.
Here are some tips to help you stay incredibly motivated to reach your fitness and sport performance goals, no matter what you’re facing.
- Your Goals. What I’ve learned is that if you want to improve, then you need clear and specific goals you can keep. Be realistic about exactly what you want and how long it will take to achieve your goals.
- Commit to Your Lifestyle. Don’t make it a fad you are excited about for a few weeks then fall off the wagon. Writing down the reasons why you want to be more active can also help. I found that keeping a journal helped me a lot in planning out my workouts and staying on track. Decide how often you will exercise and be reasonable to avoid totally burning yourself out and disappointment.
- Find a buddy. Recruit your fellow friends or family to join you. Or find someone at the gym. If you have a strong social support system, you can go a long way towards achieving your long term fitness goals and have fun at the same time.
- Vary Your Training. If you go to the gym, don’t become a cardio bunny on just the treadmill or elliptical trainer. Try out an exercise class or weight-lifting sessions. Or do yoga. Get creative and be challenged in your routine. Variety will keep you interested and your muscles guessing.
- Plateau Is Not The End. Don’t be discouraged when you hit a fitness plateau. Instead use it as an opportunity to make positive changes to your routine and take it up a notch or few. Paying for professionally help can also help you get off the low.
- Celebrate Your Success. You Deserve It. You’ve been working hard to improve your life. There’s no need to splurge on a new outfit or weekend at the spa but little things that make you happy can go a long way.
